Original richly illustrated front wrapper, designed and drawn by Willy Sluyter (signed), depicting a variety of events from the couple's life in colonial Indonesia, some dated, incl. 2 Royal decorations as won by Gerrit Eschauzier, verso blank. Portraits of husband and wife printed on 2nd. leave with the complete text, followed by a 14-course menue, text entirely printed in gilt lettering within a thin gilt line-border, verso blank. SCAN OF FRONT WRAPPER AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. A fine piece of emphemera, being a Menue-card, commemmorating the 50th anniversary of Gerrit Eschauzier and his wife Emilie von Oven. The beautifully designed and executed front wrapper by Willy Sluiter supplies pictorial information on events and during their lives and careers in colonial Indonesia as Eschauzier's arrival in Indonesia in 1862, his first day at the Sugar-factory, his marriage-proposal in 1869, their children (we count seven with their Baboe), on horseback on an inspection-tour at the estate, his wife's promotion to medical doctor, &c.and finally their retirement at the Millioenen hoek, Javastraat, [The Hague]. Eschauzier's profession cannot be proven by certainty, but it is very likely that he was a Sugar-planter on Java: the scenes on front wrapper have been printed within a border of Sugarcane plants and some other attributes strongly refer to Sugar cultivation. A very rare piece, in fine to very fine conditions. (card has some minor wear in some places, but have been skilfully restored by an expert).
