It is particularly concerned with the development of trading network and relations between traders and entrepreneurs during the process of commercialization which started after the island was opened up for national and international commerce at the end of the 19th century; heing the result of economic-anthropological fieldwork carried out on the island of Madura, Indonesia from October 1976 until September 1977.
