However, the reunion is difficult when Hans realizes that his brother is a failure and he finds it difficult to relate to his Indonesian mother. Tom resents the Dutch moral for which his brother stands, and the situation culminates when Tom is stabbed in a brawl and dies. Disillusioned Hans and his wife decide to return to Holland.
