(xx), 218pp. with tog. monochrome ills, with extensive descriptive text, all tusbas depicted in ACTUAL size, namelists of master-smiths, schools and motifs on pp. 183-203, master's names in chinese characters, with transcription in japanese (latin script) on pp. 204-217, errata printed on verso of p. 217(=p. 218). Nice ex-libris of J.C. Pabst pasted inside front boards. The catalogue lists and describes tog. 1798 japanese tsubas and sword-fittings. It took editors and publishes some years to complete and publish this catalogue, owing to the first world war. Amonst the tsuba-masters we find a.o. Yoshiro, Kaga, Shingen, Kaneiye, Myochon-family, umetada, shoami (15th and 16th centuries, from the provinces Kyoto, Iyo, Awa, Shonai, Aizu, Akita, &c..). Catalogue is preceded by a concise history of Japanese Sword-fittings and furniture: Tsuba-masters and Sword-furniture masters. This catalogue describing the collection of Georg Oest is of great historical imporance as the collection disappeared from Berlin after the fall to Russia, and has never been seen again. A very good copy. Rare.
