S.L.[Amsterdam], Nederlandsch Bijbelgenootschap, 1940. sm.8°. orig. black cloth, lettered. 565pp. This New Testament, in dutch, published by command of the Nederlandsche Bijbelgenootschap, NBG, dutch colonial (Indische) version, has been produced in the War-year 1940 for the Indonesian Protestant Church, and has been presented to Teunis Cornelis Proper (born 's-Gravenhage, 2/2/[18]93, upon his avowal to the church (pending membership) on 23 January 1944, during a public ceremony as held in the Navy P.O.W. Camp Macassar (Sulawesi); provenance: a 9-line message in Ms. in ink, signed by the acting Protestan Minister, by command of the Malang(Java) Church-council, with his, unidentified, signature, on a tipped-in leave on verso of first blank. With another 6-line Ms. dedication on recte of first blank, signed and dated Malang, 23/1'44. With some Japanese characters stamped in margin of Hftitle and a red japanese tjap. Curious & rare.
