An interesting description by a german missionary, member of the so-called Rheinische Mission, describing in detal life-cycle of the heathen Batak population of N. Sumatra (:) birth and early life, adolescence, initiation, religious beliefs, the higher God, cosmography, marriage, death and burial rites, incl. the resistance towards christianization, progress of missionary work, failure in conversion, &c. Although there is no statement indicating that this copy is the second enlarged edition, the library of the Royal dutch Institute of Anthropology and Linguistics, K.I.T.L.V., calls for a copy published in 1912 (63pp. only). Very good copy. Scarce.
