<p>This book gives an introduction to two closely related subjects: the drawing of birds and the production of lifelike wooden sculptures of birds.</p> <p>Following a short outline of the anatomy of birds we are shown how it is possible, with the help of simple auxiliary lines - and following a great deal of practice - to make sketches using living birds as models.</p> <p>The techniques for finishing the drawing, including techniques for drawing feathers, bills and legs, are given. Also the various methods of shading, which give the desired texture and depth to the drawing, are mentioned. A separate section describes how to draw birds in flight.</p> <p>The final section of the book describes the carving of bird sculptures in wood. With the help of numerous photographs the entire process is explained, from the moment the knife meets the wooden block, until the carved sculpture is ready to be painted in realistic colours.</p> <p>The process of producing copies of sculptures as well as hunting decoys is also described.</p>
