Eén en ander mondt uit in de vraag: welke uitdagingen leveren deze krachten op voor de ontwikkeling van een nieuwe kritische grondslagentheorie van het strafrecht?<br /><br />This book contains the inaugural lecture of Prof. Ferry de Jong that was delivered in abridged form on January 14, 2016, on the occasion of the public acceptance of the position of Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at Utrecht University. The lecture is devoted to the nature and role of anxiety in our late-modern society. This anxiety and the appertaining obsession with security are discussed in conjunction with the shrivelling status of (symbolic) structures that uphold communal bonds within society and the potentially schismatic (diabolic) forces of criminality.
