<strong>Contemporary missionary thought in the republic of korea<br /><br /></strong>The miraculous South Korean church growth has caught the attention of the world and has in particular roused the interest of secularized Europe. What makes the churches grow over there, while decline is what we are facing in Europe? Wat kind of missionary consciousness is found in Korean churches; what do Korean Christians think mission is? These are the questions discussed in this study. <br />Starting from the history of missions to Korea, a survey and analysis is given of the missionary thought within three major Presbyterian denominations in its diversity and development. <br />During the last century, Korean Presbyterians have come up with abundant ideas about the essence and practice of mission. Much of this thought is derived fromt the legacy of the western missionaries who came to Korea. At the same time it is the product of genuine Korean reflection and practice. Korean missionary thought today exists in boundless varieties. It is no mere translation of American Church Growth School theories. Neither is all Korean missionary thought related to the Minjung movement. Each group within Korean Christianity has its own distinct missionary thought and practice. This study introduces us into this complicated but fascinating reality of Korean Christianity.
