Een problematiek die zeer hedendaags is in een onze overgestructureerde samenleving die desondanks nooit zo duidelijk kwetsbaar was. nDe installatie die Peter Buggenhout zal bouwen voor de tentoonstelling in De Garage stelt de vraag of onze huidige situatie (in al zijn aspecten) een eindpunt of een beginpunt is.nnPeter Buggenhout is one of Belgian's leading contemporary sculptors. His work consists of drawings, paintings, and sculptures. The sculptures especially got an increased recognition since the double exhibition with his wife Berlinde de Bruyckere, at the Brakke Grond in Amsterdam in 2001. nHis latest exhibition, at the Cultureel Centrum in Mechelen, Belgium, shows his latest sculptures. Buggenhout uses a variety of materials, mostly organic such as animal intestines, cows' stomachs, as well rubbish from construction sites. Materials which seem useless to most people and as a result are thrown away, are picked up by Buggenhout to create huge sculptures with. Although the sculptures are enormous in size, they seem, and actually are, very fragile because of the brittle materials. They also seem formless, as if they were piles of gathered trash, but at the same time they are a consistent whole, a whole of unattractive waste materials. The sculptures evoke what is sometimes called a "gut feeling", a feeling that comes from deep inside but is impossible to describe or in some sort of way, a feeling of fascination and disgust at the very same time.
