The only autobiography (taken from letters and personal recollections, edited by Hans Rhodius) on the life and times of the famous painter & musician Walter Spies, living on Bali, whose influence on traditional Balinese painting, music and arts proved to be immensely. Especially his paintings are of great beauty and fetch very high prices at auctions (whenever auctioned however). The artist perished unfortunately in 1942 when the ship that took him to internment, was accidentally torpedoed: there was no escape from the locked hatches. A very good copy, WITH dustjacket. Rare.
