His experiences give rise to an urgent campaign to destroy the vampire count, to eliminate Dracula's cult of the living dead, and to triumph over a centuries-old evil. Bram Stoker's masterpiece is a thriller of such hypnotic intensity that it has captured millions of readers around the world and inspired its own literature and mythology of the supernatural. Paperback
Bram Stoker's bone-chilling vampire tale was not the first of its kind; the author was influenced by fellow Dubliner Sheridan Le Fanu's similarly-themed short story Carmilla, published in 1872, 25 years before Dracula. But it is the latter that stands at the pinnacle of this horror sub-genre. We would not recommend it to nervous persons for evening reading, The Times review advised when it was hot off the press, indicative of the power of the text to those more familiar with comic or schlocky adaptations of this Gothic classic. English lawyer Jonathan Harker journeys to Count Dracula's Transylvanian castle to discuss a routine real estate transaction. Title deeds are the last thing on the shape-shifting Count's mind. He has a thirst for pastures new and fresh blood, and as the action moves to England, he gorges himself at the expense of the unfortunate ship's crew. Harker's fiancee Mina, her friend Lucy Westenra, Dr Seward and vampire expert Professor Van Helsing band together to stop the undead count from rising. Only certain weapons will be effective, and not all of them will survive. Told through the diaries and letters of the chief characters, Dracula has a gripping authenticity and immediacy that draws the reader into its shadowy nightmare.

Awareness of Dracula as a masterly gothic thriller has increased ever since its publication in 1897, and the novel is regarded as one of the most seminal horror stories of ever written, having inspired countless copycat tales and literary spin-offs. The tale of young Englishman Jonathan Harker's journey to Transylvania, into the very heart of Count Dracula's evil realm, is compelling, but it is perhaps the journey of the vampire to England, and the dangers he poses to Jonathan's beloved Mina, that is the more horrifying.

Of the many admiring reviews, Bram Stoker's Dracula received when it first appeared in 1897, the most astute praise came from the author's mother, who wrote her son: 'It is splendid. No book since Mrs. Shelley's Frankenstein or indeed any other at all has come near yours in originality, or terror.' A popular bestseller in Victorian England, Stoker's hypnotic tale of the bloodthirsty Count Dracula, whose nocturnal atrocities are symbolic of an evil ages old yet forever new, endures as the quintessential story of suspense and horror. The unbridled lusts and desires, the diabolical cravings that Stoker dramatized with such mythical force, render Dracula resonant and unsettling a century later.

Frederick Jaeger and Phyllis Logan star in this BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of Bram Stoker's classic horror novel. Summoned to the forbidding heart of the Carpathian mountains in Transylvania, Jonathan Harker journeys to Castle Dracula. There he becomes the unwitting prisoner of a mysterious nobleman whom local legend suggests is Nosferatu, the vampire, a night-stalking beast whose immortality depends on the slaking of his insatiable thirst for human blood. Able to transform himself at will into the shape of a wolf or bat, the evil Count sets sail for England on the scent of new and corruptible flesh. Meanwhile, Harker's fiancee Mina is staying in Whitby when a great storm brings a shipwreck to the town. Suddenly Mina's friend falls terribly ill. Could her fate be connected to what Harker found in Transylvania? As Count Dracula's terrible secret is unearthed by the vampire hunter Van Helsing, a breathtaking chase across Europe ensues...With specially composed music and sound effects, this terrifying adaptation ably captures the atmosphere of brooding fear and dark eroticism present in Stoker's original novel.

Paperback
A true masterwork of storytelling, Dracula has transcended generation, language, and culture to become one of the most popular novels ever written. It is a quintessential tale of suspense and horror, boasting one of the most terrifying characters ever born in literature: Count Dracula, a tragic, night-dwelling specter who feeds upon the blood of the living, and whose diabolical passions prey upon the innocent, the helpless, and the beautiful. But Dracula also stands as a bleak allegorical saga of an eternally cursed being whose nocturnal atrocities reflect the dark underside of the supremely moralistic age in which it was originally written -- and the corrupt desires that continue to plague the modern human condition.

Hardcover
Count Dracula as you've never seen him before! The novel that made vampire a household word, Bram Stoker's Dracula has been delighting - and chilling - readers for well over 100 years. Now the immortal Count returns in this stunning new edition, offering the complete text of Stoker's dark masterwork adorned with more than 50 original illlustrations by renowned, award-winning artist Becky Cloonan. Johnny Depp produces and stars as Barnabas Collins in what will be the eighth collaboration between the two. Also starring are Helena Bonham-Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, and Jackie Earle Hayley. Dark Shadows is inspired by the TV show of the same name, which ran from 1966-1971. Drawing on classic gothic and horror novels for its storylines, this daily gothic soap opera featured ghosts, zombies, werewolves, and witches; when the Dracula-inspired Barnabas Collins was introduced in 1967, the show's popularity soared, signifying the power of the vampire figure. A more contemporary Count Dracula - rendered edgier, more colourful and stylishly macabre with Victorian overtones, through Cloonan's unparalleled artistic skill and unique visual imagination - takes flight in this magnificent volume that every Twilight and True Blood fan will want to sink their teeth into.
