In the final year, 1944, of the japanese occupation of Java, hundreds of young eurasian men and boys were arrested by japanese military, with hard labour at Telogosari (near Toeren), Lawang and Soember (Dampit), Malang region, East Java. After a short period labour camps changed into penal-camps, and a considerable group of boys were arrested by the notorious Janpetai (japanese secret police), accused of subversive actions. The group was court-marshalled and 14 boys received the death penalty, beheaded two months before the liberation of Indonesia. Others received prison sentences from 7 years up till life-time.
